Steve Moore has spent the majority of his 20 year career working as an executive in troubled companies. Working in these troubled, or crisis
environments, has established Steve as a leader with a wide range of operational expertise as well as a trusted partner to constituents including
lenders, vendors and creditors. Steve's operational experience includes development and execution of performance enhancement strategies, expense
reduction and rationalization plans, asset disposition, mergers and acquisitions, and bankruptcy. Also, Steve's legal background has proved to
be an asset to executive teams and boards of directors as the business navigates through an operational or financial crisis, a restructuring,
government investigations, or bankruptcy.
Steve has served as Chief Restructuring Officer for Movie Gallery/Hollywood Video, a home entertainment specialty retail chain that operated more
than 2600 stores in North America, as well as Friedman's, Inc., a retail jewelry business that, at its peak, operated more than 700 stores in 22
states. Steve also served as Plan Administrator for Service Merchandise, a retail business that once generated $4 billion in annual revenues.
As Chief Restructuring Officer and as Plan Administrator, Steve has managed all aspects of the retail bankruptcy process.
Steve served as Chief Administrative Officer, General Counsel and Secretary at both Friedman's and Service Merchandise. He led a variety of
functions including real estate, construction, human resources, legal, loss prevention, I.T., purchasing, and communications. A sampling of Steve's projects include:
- Spearheaded a major redevelopment of the company's real estate portfolio that consisted of remodeling 80 stores, reconfiguring 135 stores and subleasing excess space to third-party retail tenants. The sublease program generated more than $15 million in incremental rental income
- Led various cost savings initiatives, including downsizing and restructuring of field and corporate organizations, closing stores and distribution centers
- Execution of a corporate headquarters relocation from Savannah, Georgia to Dallas, Texas within less than eight months
- Led integration of Crescent Jewelers into Friedman's following acquisition of Crescent out of bankruptcy
- Served as the point person for negotiations with SEC, DOJ and various state attorneys general to resolve investigations and litigation
Steve began his career as an attorney with the Nashville, Tennessee law firm of Boult, Cummings, Conners & Berry. He received his J.D. from the University of Kentucky and his B.A from David Lipscomb University. He resides in Nashville, Tennessee.
